Torn Paper Paintings with Terri Schmitt
A 3-day class to create a vibrant and impressionistic still-life painting using hand-painted papers.

Dates: January 17, 18, 19 - 9:00am-4:00pm

Location: Auditorium Level, 8 North Center for the Arts (you will need to be able to climb stairs to access this venue)

8 North Fort Thomas Ave., Fort Thomas, KY 41075

This class will be an intensive three days of making art. Each day will be approximately 6 hours of class-time. The anticipated schedule will be: 9:00am-noon, lunch break, and 1:00-4:00pm daily. All supplies will be included in the price of the class.
Students will have the option of purchasing a gel plate at the end of class.
At the end of the class, you will have a small painting and an understanding of the materials needed to successfully create gel printed paper.

  • The first day, will involve a short lesson on color mixing with acrylic paint, transferring a drawing, and hand-painting a still-life scene onto a rigid panel. (Reference images will be provided).

  • The second day will involve hands-on instruction that guides the student in creating one-of-a-kind hand-painted papers, using a gel plate and acrylic paint. The goal is to produce papers that can be used in their final project, covering the painting that they created the day before. I will encourage students to cut their papers down and share with other students to get the widest range of colors, values and textures

  • The third day will be choosing hues and values of painted paper and applying them to the wood panel to create a finished Torn Paper Painting.
